Left Behind author Tim LaHaye dies at 90
Rev. Tim LaHaye, author of the best-selling Christian rapture series Left Behind, has died, the AP reports. He was 90.
LaHaye’s publicist Johnnie Moore confirmed that the conservative author died in a San Diego hospital after suffering a stroke days prior. The first book in the Left Behind series, which LaHaye co-authored with Jerry B. Jenkins, was published in 1995. It comprises 16 books, and was adapted to film in 2000 starring Growing Pains actor Kirk Cameron. It was re-made again in 2014, this time starring Nicholas Cage.
In addition to the Left Behind series, LaHaye wrote over 60 works of non-fiction, like a Christian sex manual titled The Act of Marriage, and was active in conservative political groups, founded Christian high schools, and helped implement the evolution-rejecting Institute for Creation Research.
